GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT SNAG
What is The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG)? Artists. Designers. Jewelers. Metalsmiths.
SNAG supports and advances the professional practice of artists, designers, jewelers and metalsmiths. Through education, innovation, and leadership, SNAG provides access to a vibrant and passionate community.
Founded in 1969, SNAG is a nonprofit educational organization with more than 3,000 members worldwide - comprising all aspects of contemporary metalsmithing.
Does SNAG encompass only goldsmithing? No. SNAG’s founders chose this name for the venerated tradition of craftsmanship it stands for throughout Europe. SNAG’s membership has never been limited to goldsmithing alone. Forty years later, SNAG embraces artisans, educators, craftspersons and students working in all metals, multiple alternative materials, and different sizes and scale.
Do I have to be a metalsmith to be a member? No. We invite everyone to join SNAG - jewelers, designers, collectors, educators, students, metalsmiths and others. SNAG is for everyone with an interest in the art and craft of contemporary jewelry and metalsmithing.
How can I be most informed about the field of metalsmithing and connect with others in the field? Become a SNAG member to receive Metalsmith magazine and SNAG News, Sign up for SNAGnet, attend a SNAG conference, volunteer with SNAG. Visit the SNAG website regularly to get the most up-to-date information about SNAG opportunities and deadlines.
SNAG MEMBERSHIP & METALSMITH SUBSCRIPTION
How much is a magazine subscription. How much is membership? What are the member benefits? Subscription begins at $34/year. Regular membership begins at $79/year and student membership is $49/year. Please see our subscription and membership pages.
I am a current subscriber or member. How do I update my contact information? Subscribers may email the SNAG office. Members may update their information by using this form. Or call 541-345-5689.
I am a new subscriber or member, when do I get my first issue of Metalsmith? The first issue of Metalsmith that you will receive is the next issue to be mailed out. Metalsmith publishes each year January 10, March 17, June 1, August 10, and October 17. Members, you will also start to receive SNAG News immediately. In addition, everyone receives a welcome packet containing information about SNAG resources.
My copy of Metalsmith or SNAG News never arrived. How can I get a replacement sent? We will promptly replace missing issues if your claim is received within three months. Please email the SNAG office or call 541-345-5689.
How do I know when my subscription or membership expires? The expiration date appears on the mailing label of your Metalsmith magazine. Members can also find the expiration date in their record in the Member Area. Also, SNAG sends out several renewal notices by email and by mail.
I'd like to cancel my subscription or membership. Can I get a refund? Sorry, SNAG does not issue refunds.
Do you have membership cards? Not at this time.
How can I order back-issues of Metalsmith magazine? Back-issues of some, but not all, Metalsmith are available. Call the SNAG office at 541-345-5689.
What is the Exhibition in Print? Exhibition in Print is the special annual edition of Metalsmith (it is one of the five issues published each year; mailed out in August). Some years it is juried and other years it is curated. See our Exhibition in Print page.

How do I make a submission to Metalsmith magazine? Metalsmith accepts unsolicited materials about artists and subjects relevant to the field. Send information and images to Suzanne Ramljak, the editor, but contact her first. Learn more.

What is SNAG News? How do I make a submission to SNAG News? SNAG News is published for members five times a year. Each issue advances your career, delivering new opportunities, new venues and more. Send all submissions to snagnews@snagmetalsmith.org. See our SNAG News page for additional information.
What is SNAGnet? How do I subscribe to SNAGnet or post a message? SNAGnet is our news service, run as a list serve, which publicizes opportunities throughout the jewelry and metals field. See our SNAGnet page.
Do I have to be a SNAG member to subscribe to SNAGnet or post a message to SNAGnet? No. SNAGnet is available to anyone who is interested in receiving the news announcements. See our SNAGnet page.
WEBSITE
How was the work currently shown on SNAG’s website chosen? How could I get an image of my work considered for the site? Only members’ work is shown on SNAG’s website. Resolution: 150 dpi at 8” x 10” is ideal. 72 dpi at 5” x 7” will also be considered. Send high-quality images of your work to Dana Singer. Please do not send work previously shown in Metalsmith.
I'm having problems with the on-line subscription and membership payment form. What should I do? Call the SNAG office at 541-345-5689 to pay over the phone and to let us know you are having a problem. Or you can print a form to mail in with payment.
How do I login to the member pages on the SNAG website? You will need your username and password. These were either sent to you by SNAG or you set them up when you joined SNAG through the website. Be sure you are a current member. If your membership lapses you will lose access to the member pages.
I've forgotten my username and/or password. What can I do? Please go here.
I'm a member, but my username and password don't work. What can I do? First, be sure that you are a current SNAG member (your membership expiration date appears on the address label of Metalsmith). Please email SNAG with your information and we will assist you.
How do I change my username and/or password? Use this form to email your changes to SNAG and we will assist you.
POLICIES
What is SNAG's privacy policy? SNAG will never rent or sell email addresses or any payment information with anyone at any time. For postal mailings only, SNAG may periodically rent its postal mailing list to a highly selective, short list of companies which exist solely within the jewelry and metals field, with all inquiries evaluated individually on a case-by-case basis and for one-time use only. What type of payments do you accept? All check payments made to SNAG must be in U.S. dollars on a U.S. bank. We also accept Visa and MasterCard. PayPal is also accepted for certain items.
